Knowledge. Fun. Enjoyment.
Hey there, music lovers and cultural connoisseurs! Let me tell you about a sonic journey that's been spinning since 1991 - Pacific Street Blues & Americana. Imagine radio as a time machine, a cultural tapestry woven with sounds that tell stories - and bring joy to our lives. Our podcasts are like musical archaeology, digging deep into the roots and branches of musical expression. What's the Common Thread (WTCT) is our trivia podcast that's all about those "Aha!" moments. We're not just dropping facts - we're sparking curiosity, inviting listeners to fall in love with music through education and exploration.
The Spotlight Show podcast is where we dive deep. We don't just play music; we explore entire musical ecosystems. Who influenced an artist? Who did they inspire? What covers reveal their true impact? It's musical genealogy at its finest.
Our weekly radio show is Musical Ecclectricity! Pacific St Blues & Americana is a weekly brew of blues, Americana, blues-rock, and classic rock that's been cooking & steaming since 1991. We curating an experience that connects generations through sound, information, and exposure to music that may be new to them.
For those who remember when the radio was magical and the deejays shared their love for music, knowledge, and excitement - this is for you. We're trying to keep that spirit alive, one note at a time.
Stay up-to-date
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers' anthem "The Last DJ" isn't just a song - it's a rallying cry for what a carefully honed, art of radio could be.
This tune, with its defiant lyrics about a DJ who "plays what he wants to play," has become a north star for those who still believe in the magic of the airwaves.
For over four decades, Pacific St Blues & Americana have VOLUNTARILY been channeling that Petty spirit, spinning tunes that make hearts soar and minds wander. We're reaching for that spark of joy that radio legends like Paxton West, Dick Werner, Steve Sleeper, Mike Cody, Kevin Cassera, Joe Bostick, Denny Burnside, Tom Becka, Phil Rooney, Otis XII & Diver Dan, and anyone I might have mistakenly forgotten ignited in us.
Years ago, a university student in my class approached me after class, eyes lit with recognition. "Are you the guy on the radio?" he asked. Turns out, his dad took him fishing every Sunday and our show was the soundtrack to that childhood memory. It matters.
In this age of algorithms and playlists, we're doing our best to keep the flame of freeform radio burning bright. We're not just disc jockeys; we're musical storytellers, cultural connectors, and maybe, just maybe, every once in awhile we’re able to walk in the footsteps of Jim Laad, Kid Leo, or the Nightengale that Petty sang about.
Here's to the power of radio: we ain’t perfect but we may be good enough for you.
